Brake Pad Wear - ABS vehicles
|
Some owners of Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) equipped 100 series may experience higher than expected rear brake pad wear, particularly compared to previous model Landcruisers. In fact, I would average 2 sets of rear pads to every set of front pads.
This is due to the fact that ABS equipped 100 series do not utilise a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve (LSPV) to reduce the rear braking bias when the vehicle is lightly loaded. Instead the brake system delivers a constant proportion of brake pressure to the rear brakes, ignorant of vehicle load, and relies on the (ABS) to prevent wheel lockup when lightly loaded. Non ABS equipped 100 series vehicles still run the LSPV like the earlier 80 series. Regardless, the braking system does perform very well. |
