I managed to snap two front wheel studs the other day while changing a flat. I put it down to being overtightened by a rattle gun (workshop air gun). Having talked to a few other 80 series owners, I was surprised at how many other people have broken/stripped wheel studs. Anybody else seen this?
One said his toyo dealer said never to use a rattle gun on TLC wheel nuts. The studs are 'soft' and subject to thread stretching (and hence easy stripping) and eventually failure.
This is a problem. The correct procedure is a light film of oil on the stud and torquing to 108 ftlb.
